A synthetic, antibacterial chemical compound known as triclosan has been a biocide in soaps, deodorants, toothpastes and mouthwashes for years. Triclosan is also infused in other common household cleaners to kill fungi, bacteria and viruses.

Although all manufacturers in the US are legally obligated to clearly label whether their product contains triclosan, few consumers are educated about the potential dangers of this chemical.
